Look great, move your body and be healthy. Sounds like the perfect recipe for spring.
I love combining exercise and movement with normal everyday life routines.
Are you struggling to add in more exercise into your life?
I usually hear people say 'they just don't have time'.
Here are some easy ways to incorporate more mindful movement into your day to day routine and become happier and healthier. No gym membership required.
Get up early.
Waking up earlier isn't always easy, but can jumpstart your day in a real positive direction. Try and set your alarm for only a half hour earlier and use that time to take a walk, do yoga, meditate or pack a healthy lunch. Giving yourself time at the beginning of the day, before everyone 'needs' you can really make a big difference in your life. Make the effort to take better care of yourself. That always makes me feel better.
Ditch the car.
Sometimes it's nice to not get behind the wheel and use our feet to get around. Even if you live in the suburbs, make time to get out and explore your neighborhood or (if you have to) drive to a spot you can hike or walk. I sometimes run all my errands as part of my workout for the day. It gets me out moving and helps me check off my to-do list.
Meet a friend for a walk.
We're spoiled here in town to be able to walk to many beautiful restaurants. Instead of sitting down and catching up with a friend over drinks, meet them for a walk after work. It's a fun and affordable way to be with friends and exercise at the same time.
Listen to a podcast.
I'll confess to all of you...I'm a complete podcast junkie. I listen to my favorite shows while I walk or workout. It's a great way to learn new things, grow your mind and workout at the same time. A nice change from music....I feel like it helps me organize my week, focus on my health and stay positive.
Walk or bike to work.
I love seeing people using their bikes to get to work. There's something cool about seeing someone dressed up on a bike. Pump up your tires and get rolling. It's a no brainer. Pedal or walk yourself into better health and a happier, more active lifestyle. Your body will reward you.
After dinner stroll.
Skip the dishes and get out of the house. Enjoy the longer days of spring after such a very long winter and enjoy your neighborhood. Walking after a meal improves digestion and can add another twenty minutes of movement to your routine. Try it tonight.
Clean your house workout.
I use household chores to sometimes sneak in more exercise. Squating down to pick things up, not only saves my back, but it also strengthens my legs. Cleaning and organizing the house can take you a good part of the day and keep you moving. Drying dishes, folding laundry, cleaning the tub and putting things away are all part of maintaining your house. Caring for your environment and honoring your home is part of a healthy lifestyle. Make it fun and get everyone involved in some healthy spring cleaning. Everyone benefits.
I hope this helps you move a little more this week and enjoy the spring weather. Wishing you all more sunshine and health. Make it a wonderful week!
