I've had the pleasure to interview the owner of Local Barre, Jennifer DeMarco and she was kind enough to share her personal journey and inspiration behind the popular brand Local Barre.
I'm honored and delighted to bring you this post today. If you've never tried a class, pick up one of the many specials they have going on. I can tell you from experience, you won't be disappointed. They have three locations in town and recently opened a spin/barre-based fitness studio called Wheelhaus Bikegarten. A wonderful place that I'm happy tohighlight in my 'Caught Being Healthy' series. Thank you Jennifer for providing us a space to take care of our bodies, heal and make new friends.
What inspired you to open Local Barre?
I had always daydreamed of owning a boutique in a small town "when I grew up". Around the time my husband proposed to me, I bid the City farewell to be with him in Hoboken. Although I expected to do it kicking and screaming, I instantly fell in love with the one square mile. The only drag was the late ferry ride after my barre class, which I never missed. After several months of wishing I could hit the barre in Hoboken, we decided to make it happen ourselves.
How do you balance your own health/family life while running a business?
It's a constant balancing act, health/family life and running a business. I reevaluate my schedule seasonally, to be sure that it feels good for me and my family. For the summer, I have been enjoying the parks and other outdoor excursions with my children by morning and head out in the afternoons for my meetings, workouts, and pampering. My nanny arrives during lunchtime and my kids are super long nappers so I swoop back in about the time of dinner and bath feeling refreshed and at peace that I haven't missed much. It seems to be working for all of us--stay tuned as we anticipate the arrival of our third child in three weeks!
What’s next for Local Barre? Fall Series?
We will celebrate the Grand Opening of our third Local Barre studio in Hoboken and the much anticipated spin space, Wheelhaus, our new cycling business!
