'Lynda...can you give me some healthy snack ideas?'
Now that the new year is here, it's time to recharge our healthy internal batteries and pack more real food snacks and brown bag lunches. It's not always easy, but keeping it simple and being prepared helps us eat right while we live in a world of processed food tempations are all around us.
Today I'm here to help you pack some healthy snacks and stay on track with all your New Year goals.
Lately I've been craving more warm, cooked food since it's been so cold here in New Jersey. I find myself making a big pot of soup or chili on Sunday and eating it throughout the week.
Raw salads and green juices are still in the rotation, but I'm leaning more towards roasted or stir fried vegetable medleys. As we try and get the holiday snacks and sweets out of the house. Ugh. Too much food.
On an average day however, I can set a clock to my 'snack alarm' that goes off in my belly everyday around 4 o'clock. Instead of reaching for processed crackers or a sugary bar I try and reach for crunchy veggie sticks, nuts or a piece of fruit.
The photo above is some homemade rosemary, white bean hummus I tested for a project. It curbed my hunger while preparing dinner and kept me smiling.
Some other easy real food afternoon snack ideas:
a handful nut mix or trail mix
roasted pumpkin or sunflower seeds
apple or pear fruit slices with cinnamon
carrot and celery sticks with almond butter
small green apple, spinach and ginger smoothie or any blend you like
air popped popcorn
avocado mashed on warm whole grain toast with sea salt.
Give these snacks a try and be prepared for your busy day. Hope this helps you stay committed to your health, feel your best and have more energy. Feel free to reach out for support. I always love hearing from you!
