A fresh new school year for any size kid can be a nice time to restart your commitment to your health. Below are 10 tips you might find useful to help you get started. Happy September!
Keep it simple and give a few of these a try:
There's no better day to start than today. No more excuses. Book that class, walk for 5 minutes, order a salad and show up for yourself. You're worth it!
Have fun with fitness technology
I got rid of my gym membership months ago and find myself using different apps on my phone, like Mind Body Connect and my Garmin Vivofit to help keep me motivated. It's nice to see how many miles I walk or have yoga schedules right at my fingertips.
Find your healthy community
It's no fun to be a party of one. I find the energy of others makes me more excited about working out and staying active. Listening to healthy podcasts and finding my fitness friends help me stay fit and be positive.
Stock the fridge with healthy choices
My fruit bowl is always front and center so I pass it often. The ultimate fast food! I try and batch cook for a few days, using real food and fresh ingredients. That way meals take minutes to pull together, so I can be in and out of the kitchen.
Try a stand up desk
If I'm working from home, I've been experimenting with standing up to do my emails. It doesn't always last long, especially if I went for a long hike or run, but give it a go!
Walk early in the morning or after dinner
Even if you only can spare 10-20 minutes....get out there and just do it!
Make a juice or smoothie
Blended smoothies and fresh pressed juices instantly make you feel like smiling. Honor yourself and find or blend one up today.
Eat one LARGE salad a day
I try to make this part of my everyday. A gigantic bowl of leafy greens. It's filled with fiber, vitamins, minerals and is a great way to use up what's in your fridge.
Add in some fun!
If your to-do list is all work and no play...add in a few minutes of something you enjoy and treat yourself! You're worth it!
Get out of your comfort zone
It's so easy to stay with what's comfy. It can be a real challenge to try something new or say yes to something that scares you. However, we've all tried new things and stretched ourselves and know how rewarding it can be! Don't be shy...go for it!
