Beginning with the End in Mind

Lynda Layng

We all start the day with such energy and determination to eat well and take better care of ourselves.  .

Then around 3 o'clock sometimes my enthusiam goes out the window .  Especially now that the bleak January winter has set in.  Why is that? And does that happen to you?

This summer I read the book 7 habits of Hightly Effective People by Stephen Covey.  It changed my way of thinking as one of the habits was 'to begin with the end in mind'  Meaning think about where you'd like to be at the end of anything (the week, a season, a year) and work your way there step by step.  In other words...have a plan and chart out a way to get there.

Sounds easy enough, right until your arm is elbow deep into the pretzel or trail mix bag by late afternoon.

This week I've come up with a plan to tackle the week.  I've set some small, attainable personal healthy living goals.  I started by writing them down and keeping them near my calandar so I'm reminded each day to stay the course.  And hopefully by Friday, seeing myself cross the finish line feeling my best.

I hope these tips inspire you to make your own list, read the 7 Habits book and have a happy, healthy week.

  • exercise (walking, cross training, pilates, yoga) 3-5 times

  • plan out my meals (pre-cook what I can or assemble ahead of time)

  • prepare and pack up my lunch salads & soups (make during breakfast, saving time)

  • reach out to a friend and make plans (cure those January blues & stay connected)

  • try a new smoothie recipe (experiment with a new veggie based detoxing juice)

  • find ways to give back and serve others in my family & community

  • clean and organize closets (5 minutes per day)

And by the end of the week I hope to feel.....

grateful for my health

physically strong

proud of the time and commitment I made for myself

connected with my community

happy and content

mentally and spiritually healthy

continue to discover the spirit of generousity, service & giving

organized & created space in my closets & donated to goodwill

Make this week matter and plan out your healthy living goals.

As always....with love & blessings,

xo
